A vanishing-edge 25m architectural lap pool seamlessly integrated into a steep sloping estate.
The Challenge
Excavating solid basalt rock and suspending the outward edge of the pool 4 metres above the natural ground line — whilst honouring the architect's intent for a pool that appears to grow out of the bedrock itself.
The Applied Solution
We engineered deep foundational piering into the basalt and poured a massively reinforced self-supporting concrete outer wall clad in local stackstone. The vanishing edge was calibrated seasonally to account for thermal expansion across a 30°C annual range.
